human | designerIn the very beginning, there was man and there was nature, and they were harmonious. The built (architecture) and the natural (landscape) environment were one. Throughout the course of human history and development, the two fields have diverged into separate and independent practices. Yet, the difference between “natural” and “built” is often indistinguishable.
Considering the temporality of man’s existence and the infiniteness of nature, it can sometimes be difficult to grasp the implications of our actions. Spatial designers and engineers often get sidetracked trying to make rules and rationalizations to best utilize environments; meanwhile, the beauty of the human hand / environment relationship fades.
Civilizations past have left us ruins of elaborate temples and pyramids; we need not leave strip malls and parking lots.

Kait is a practicing landscape architectural designer in central Virginia. As demonstrated in her work, Kait explores the complex relationships between man and nature, past and present, and the built and the found. Her design ethos advocates for a multidisciplinary approach within modern design and design-adjacent disciplines. She seeks to work within, between, and beyond the fields of art, ecology, architecture, and landscape architecture and to balance analytical precision with emotional depth.
