a-bee-c park + the honey highway
project description
A-Bee-C Park will serve as a playground for bees.
Exploring how the ecosystem of bees and other wildlife might begin to more directly integrate and interact with the larger ecosystem of the community, the park plays on the idea of the seen yet unseen and touched yet untouched by limiting the space for human interaction with the bees’ processes and placing humans primarily in the role of observer.
The distinction between interior and exterior begins to blur through the weaving of the walls both into the alley and the site itself. The reserved public space in the alley begins to create opportunities for an outdoor classroom in which local markets and schools can engage through hands-on learning and experimentation.
The plantings beds are to be “rented” out and choreographed by different markets or classrooms to see how various flowering plants may influence the taste of honey produced by the bees.
