a tale of two groves

project description

Rooted in the exploration of transportation as a driving factor of colonization throughout the US – and, more specifically, in the St. Louis region – The Tale of Two Groves proposes the redesign of two parks along the city’s downtown Gateway Mall. On either side of the Civil Courts Building lies Poelker Park to the west and Serra Sculpture Park to the west, with this three-block span serving as the project site.

Re-choreographed using a new set of paving schemas derived from the existing topography and the former building footprints found in the 1908 Sanborn fire insurance maps, the park engages visitors with the site’s history in an unconscious yet tangible way.
